My son turned TWO years old this summer! We had so much fun celebrating him with his favorites – tractors and diggers!
There is so much room to be creative with a themed party, especially labeling the food and even making a homemade healthy, chocolate peanut butter smash cake. I am not sure if doing a smash cake is a thing people usually do for a second birthday party, but I knew he would love it and so I did!
The tractor and digger party decor consisted of tractor balloons that I got off of Amazon for $7.99, a pack of digger balloons for also the same price, as well as some small colored balloons from the dollar store. The balloons were also a hit with the kiddos as they pretended to ride on them at the end of the party!
My husband even drove out the tractor beforehand and decorated it out front in our yard. Our son was thrilled to see it, and it worked well for some fun photos.
DIG IN!
The toddler party dinner was a walking taco bar and had the diggers and tractor theme through out everything. The fun part about a themed kid party is that you can have fun thinking of labels for the themed food too! You don’t need much more than some colored paper and a sharpie for some themed food label signs.
LOAD UP on Food!
Along with the crockpot taco meat, we also had the fixings.
FUEL UP!
Of course I couldn’t forget a drink station! It’s hard work being a digger and tractor after all. I had lemon water and then the other was homemade mojitos for the adults. Juice boxes were also provided for the kiddos.
STACK Hay Bales!
MOVE Logs!
Creating a themed kid’s party is so much fun because I can turn cheese and crackers into hay bales and beef sticks into logs for stacking!! Using your imagination is fitting, after all, that is the fun of being a kid!
HAUL Rocks!
CLEAR Rough Terrain!
Among the other digger and tractor appetizers, there were rocks to be hauled (pistachios) and rough terrain to be cleared (Gardhettos). Along with the walking taco dinner, there were a variety of chips as well.
CRUSH Doritos!
SCOOP up Dip!
I made a cheesy corn dip that paired well with the taco meal, along with Fritos for dipping.
Till the Ground! – Taco Dip
Garden Harvest – Fruit Bowl
Get yourself some streamers from the dollar store and you can make “digger tracks” on top of the counter!
Oreos turn into tractor tires and also “don’t really count” if you eat them. Heehee!
This healthy chocolate smash cake was made with sweet potato and maple syrup and my son absolutely loved digging into it. Literally!! I made my own version of frosting using organic peanut butter, maple syrup and cocoa powder, topping it off with a few new digger toys I had washed up beforehand. My son used his newly gifted construction utensils from Amazon as well.
I bought an additional cake from a favorite local grocery store for the rest of the party guests! “Plow Some Snow” was the sign for the ice cream.
If you are interested in my toddler party list for this special day, here it is! Included are the food ideas with tractor and digger themed names, though some I thought of but didn’t use.
